DAX rises slightly as global tech sell-off has limited effect
Germany’s DAX closed 0.33% higher at 25,382 points on Thursday, after trading around the 25,000-point mark for much of the week.
A global sell-off in technology shares began in the United States and spread to Asian markets, especially semiconductor stocks.
The DAX was less affected because it includes few large technology companies, particularly those closely tied to artificial intelligence.
Investors are also watching high oil prices and concerns about government debt in some large European Union countries.
In the United States, inflation rose 3.7%, adding to fears that the Federal Reserve may raise interest rates, which can weigh especially heavily on technology companies.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s TSMC reported a record quarterly profit, helped by strong demand for chips used in AI data centres.
The Federal Reserve is due to discuss its next interest-rate move at its meeting on October 27 and 28.
The DAX closed slightly higher on Thursday, despite a global sell-off in technology and chip stocks.
Tagesschau reported a close at 25,382 points, up 0.33%, while Handelsblatt reported 25,383 points, up 0.3%.
The index was little affected because it contains few large technology companies with direct links to artificial intelligence.
Scout24 led gains, while chipmaker Infineon was the biggest decliner among the stocks listed by Handelsblatt.
Higher-than-expected US inflation data raised concerns that the Federal Reserve could increase interest rates again.
