Strava adds route-planning and strength-training features

Strava has updated its app with tools for finding and planning routes and tracking strength workouts.

The mapping changes are aimed at people who walk, hike and take part in other outdoor activities, as well as runners and cyclists.

Route search now accepts everyday-language prompts, and the app has more routes, simpler offline maps and redesigned route cards.

Paying subscribers are expected to get hands-free audio directions, while community tags for points of interest and route discovery on the web are also planned.

Strava added coach-designed strength workouts in October, with animated exercise guidance and live set and rep tracking for subscribers.

Free users can try a sample workout, and Strava says more workout series and tracking options are due before the end of 2026.

The updates broaden Strava beyond running and cycling, adding more guided fitness tools to the app.
