Gwangju plans four-way road links for Honam semiconductor complex

Gwangju plans roads in four directions to serve the Honam semiconductor industrial complex planned at the former military airport site.

The complex is targeted for completion in 2030, and companies including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have called for direct access to major roads.

Plans include new east and south access roads, improvements to a road on the west side, and use of existing roads to the north.

The links would connect the site to highways and regional routes, including roads toward Naju and the southwest.

This could help trucks reach the west coast and the Seoul area without crossing central Gwangju, while also improving commuting access.

Officials want road construction included in the complex plan to shorten procedures and seek national funding; they say building the network on time is a key challenge.
