AI-focused San Francisco academy plans tuition-free founding fellowship
The Horowitz Andreessen Academy is an in-person, AI-focused school being developed in San Francisco.
Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz is investing $35 million to launch it.
The academy plans to recruit about 50 students for a tuition-free founding fellowship starting in fall 2027.
It will look for students who have already built products, businesses or technical projects, and will teach them to use AI alongside skills such as selling and public speaking.
The school says more than 50 companies have agreed to partnerships, and its founder says they would hire graduates.
The plan comes as some recent college graduates are underemployed, although government data show that workers with bachelor's degrees have higher median wages and lower unemployment than workers with only high school diplomas.
The academy says it is not rejecting traditional universities; a two-year program could begin in 2028, pending regulatory approval, with tuition similar to that of an elite private university.

We're looking for students who have proof of work.
So proof of work is a student who has spent time during their high school career actually building things and shipping them into the world.
Before we even launched, we made partnerships with over 50 companies that are all name brands, some of the top tier companies in Silicon Valley and beyond. And they all didn't hesitate, essentially, to say that they would hire academy graduates.
