Canadian Parliament rejects Conservative motion on affordability crisis

Canada’s House of Commons rejected a motion declaring the country to be in an affordability crisis.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre brought the motion to a vote on Tuesday.

It failed by 165 votes to 153, with 153 members voting in favour.

The motion also said the Liberals had been in power for 11 years.

Conservatives say they will keep pushing for relief, including extending the federal fuel tax holiday until Canada Day 2027 and removing the GST from gas and diesel.

The vote did not approve those measures, which the Conservatives listed as part of their plans.

Canada’s annual inflation rate reached 3.1 per cent in September, while prices excluding gasoline rose 2.2 per cent from a year earlier.
