Académico de Viseu beats Sporting 2-1 at Alvalade
Académico de Viseu beat Sporting 2-1 in Lisbon in the ninth round of Portugal’s Primeira Liga.
João Guilherme scored both goals for the visitors, while Luis Suárez scored for Sporting to make it 1-1 before Guilherme’s second goal settled the match.
Suárez scored in his 10th straight Sporting match, matching a club record previously achieved only by Fernando Peyroteo.
Sporting had hoped to put a recent Champions League defeat by LASK behind them, but the loss brought fresh doubts about coach Rui Borges.
The result matters because pressure had already been building around Borges, including after Sporting had let leads slip 18 times during his tenure.
The match account gives no details of Sporting’s next fixture or any further steps for the club.
