Pro-Palestine march in London turns violent near Battle of Britain memorial

A pro-Palestine march in central London turned violent when some protesters clashed with police.

Some climbed onto the Battle of Britain memorial and damaged poppy wreaths displayed at its base.

The memorial honours the defence of Britain in the early years of the Second World War.

The march protested the treatment of Palestinians in Gaza and took place days after the third anniversary of Hamas’s October 7 attacks on Israel.

A pro-Israel group held a counter-demonstration along the route.

The Metropolitan Police said they arrested 20 people, including six on suspicion of criminal damage.

No further action was described.
