Sesc venues win three of São Paulo's five regional theatre awards

A Folha jury named five theatres the best in their regions of São Paulo after considering their facilities and the range of performances they offer.

Sesc venues took three of the five places: Teatro Anchieta in Consolação, Teatro Paulo Autran in Pinheiros and the Sesc theatre in Santana.

The other winners are the municipal Teatro Arthur Azevedo in Mooca and Teatro Vivo in Vila Cordeiro.

The selection spans the city, where theatres are concentrated in the central and western areas, and highlights venues that draw audiences from other neighbourhoods.

The choices reflect the importance of cultural spaces beyond the city centre, including the Arthur Azevedo, which opened in 1952 and offers free performances and independent productions.

At Teatro Anchieta, “Casa do Norte” is scheduled through November 1 and “Barulhos” through December 5.
