Indonesia Orders Regional Officials to Prepare for 2026-27 Rainy Season
Indonesia’s disaster agency has ordered regional leaders to prepare for the 2026-27 rainy season.
The directive, issued to governors and district and city leaders nationwide, sets out eight steps to strengthen local readiness.
The weather agency forecasts that most of Indonesia will enter the rainy season in late 2026 or early 2027, raising risks of floods, landslides, strong winds and high waves.
Officials are to map hazard-prone areas, prepare staff and supplies, monitor weather warnings and keep emergency posts open 24 hours a day.
They are also asked to educate communities about evacuation and protect vulnerable people, while clearing drains, checking flood-control facilities and repairing infrastructure.
Local governments must report conditions regularly to the national agency, and the measures are intended to support faster, better-coordinated emergency response during the rainy season.
