North Korea opens military museum featuring ICBMs and other weapons

North Korea has opened a museum devoted to military weapons, called the National Defence Revolution Museum.

The opening ceremony took place on Sunday, with leader Kim Jong-un attending alongside his wife and daughter.

Displays range from personal combat gear and drones to missiles, including an ICBM still under development and a new submarine-launched ballistic missile.

The museum presents North Korea’s military development as a national achievement, which Kim called a national treasure.

Observers say it may also signal to Washington and Seoul and showcase weapons for export.

They say it visibly presents the country’s nuclear programme as a lasting part of state policy.

Kim said North Korea would continue developing its defence industry and weapons, but no specific next steps were announced.
