South Korea prepares to move presidential residence to Cheong Wa Dae this year

South Korea’s presidential office says it is preparing to move President Lee Jae-myung’s residence to Cheong Wa Dae before the end of the year.

Work to prepare the residence and other facilities is nearing completion, and officials still need to test the building and prepare for the move.

The office says the moving date has not been confirmed, despite reports that the move could happen next month.

Former President Yoon Suk-yeol moved the presidential residence from Cheong Wa Dae to Hannam-dong.

Lee has used the Hannam-dong residence since taking office, although the presidential office moved to Cheong Wa Dae earlier.

Renovations to the residence, including work to strengthen security, have taken longer.

The move would return the president’s residence to Cheong Wa Dae, but the sources give no confirmed date.
