Three foreign objects found in meals at a Saitama school

Three foreign objects were reported in meals at one Saitama City elementary school between October 14 and 22.

They included a metal screw about one centimetre long and a wire-like object about three centimetres long.

On the third occasion, a child said they had swallowed something hard while eating.

No health problems were confirmed among the three children involved.

The meals were prepared at the school, but checks have not identified where the objects came from.

The school did not follow parts of the contamination response manual, and it did not report the first incident to the city board of education until a week later.

The city plans to strengthen prevention measures, and the school was scheduled to explain its response to parents at special meetings.
