Germany secures winter gas supplies for nearly €245 million

Germany has arranged additional gas supplies to help cover demand during winter 2027.

The agreements, organised by gas-market operator Trading Hub Europe, are intended to protect supply in February and March and help manage possible network bottlenecks.

The preparations will cost nearly €245 million in total.

About €107 million is for special tenders for the winter months, while around €137 million is for regular tenders.

German gas storage was 61.1% full on October 21, compared with 75.4% on the same date a year earlier.

The lower storage level has raised concern about supply security, prompting efforts by Economy Minister Katherina Reiche to strengthen preparations.

The tender contracts were awarded on Friday, and the arrangements are intended to help secure supply for the coming winter.
