Truck trailer fire closes A73 twice near Forchheim
A truck trailer caught fire on the A73 near Forchheim in Bavaria on Monday afternoon.
The 46-year-old driver was heading toward Coburg when he saw smoke and flames coming from a rear tire.
He stopped on the shoulder and detached the trailer, which was already burning.
Firefighters put out the blaze, but the trailer and its cargo of barrels and CO₂ cylinders were destroyed, and the shoulder surface was damaged.
No one was hurt, and the total damage was estimated at about €40,000.
The highway was closed for an hour during firefighting and then for three more hours that evening for recovery work, causing traffic disruption.
A diversion was set up at the Forchheim-South exit, and no further steps were reported.
