German food chains Schnitzery and Melt Cookies plan Swiss openings

Two German food chains plan to enter Switzerland with locations in Basel and Zurich.

Schnitzery expects to open its first Swiss branch this year at Steinenvorstadt 51 in Basel, in a former Burger King location.

The Berlin-founded chain serves chicken schnitzel and vegan alternatives, along with schnitzel burgers, wraps and bowls.

The company has more than 30 branches, and further Swiss locations are planned, with a firm searching for suitable sites in major cities.

Melt Cookies plans its first Swiss shop in central Zurich, at Schweizergasse 10 next to Globus.

The company sells handmade warm cookies and has four locations in Germany after starting with online sales and delivery.

Both chains use franchise partners, and the planned openings will give Swiss customers new fast-food and dessert options.
