More than 1.5 million pounds of cooked meat recalled over cooling failure

Kayem Foods recalled more than 1.5 million pounds of cooked meat and poultry sold under brands including Kayem, Al Fresco and McKenzie.

The nationwide recall covers hot dogs, bacon, chicken sausage, deli meats and other ready-to-eat products.

A warehouse cooling system malfunction led to storage temperature problems, and the company says the faulty fans have been repaired or replaced.

The recall includes products sold at Walmart, Stop & Shop and other grocery stores, with many affected retailers along the East Coast.

No illnesses or injuries have been reported, but meat that was not kept cold enough may be unsafe even if it is already cooked.

People with recalled items should throw them away or return them for a refund.

Check the product packaging for establishment numbers in the USDA inspection mark, and consult the recall list to confirm whether an item is affected.
