NASA adopts Trump's “super intelligence” term as new task force takes shape
President Donald Trump ordered US agencies to replace “artificial intelligence” and “AI” with “super intelligence” and “SI” in official communications.
NASA has started applying the new terms to its websites, publications, internal materials and digital systems, with changes planned in stages through December.
The technology itself is not changing, but one planned technical update could disrupt existing software connections.
The terminology shift comes as NASA uses these systems for tasks such as Mars rover navigation and scientific research.
Trump has also formed a Super Intelligence Force led by Jay Clayton, a White House official responsible for AI.
The group is expected to work with federal agencies on risks including cybersecurity and threats to critical infrastructure, and to consider rules requiring AI labs to report security incidents.
It has 120 days to deliver recommendations on risks, civil liberties, advanced AI standards and the effects of excessive regulation.

NASA’s four-phase rollout covers websites, publications, organizational titles and digital systems, with work scheduled to continue into December.
Trump has also announced a Super Intelligence Force, led by White House official Jay Clayton, to coordinate US efforts on the technology.
The task force is expected to report on AI risks within 120 days and consider issues including cybersecurity, civil liberties and possible reporting duties for AI laboratories.
The terminology change does not alter the federal government’s existing definition of artificial intelligence or require the technology to demonstrate new capabilities.
