Disney develops a fifth Halloweentown film

Disney is developing a fifth Halloweentown film, about 20 years after the last movie.

The series began on Disney Channel in 1998 and follows Marnie Piper, a girl who discovers she comes from a family of witches.

Its four films tell stories set in Halloweentown, a magical place where supernatural creatures live apart from the human world.

Lily Houghton and Ryan Koehn are writing the script, using characters created by Paul Bernbaum, who wrote the first film.

The story and cast are not yet known, so it is unclear whether original stars such as Kimberly J. Brown will return.

The project is still in early development and needs approval, or a green light, before it can move ahead.

If approved, the film would air on Disney Channel and Disney+.
