Putin reportedly proposed three-way summit on Ukraine, China says

Putin reportedly proposed a meeting with Trump and Xi to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.

China has not confirmed that Putin made the proposal.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said China will keep backing peace talks and a political solution to the conflict.

Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said there was interest in arranging a meeting on the sidelines of the APEC summit in China.

Trump has not approved the proposal, according to an account of the discussions cited in the reports.

A political scientist said a summit could link Ukraine peace efforts with a new world order, but added that it is too early to say diplomacy is gaining momentum.
