King Charles and Queen Camilla join beach clean-up in Antigua

King Charles and Queen Camilla joined young people for a beach clean-up at Fort James Beach in Antigua on Tuesday.

Volunteers had collected 71 bags of rubbish from the beach in the two hours before the royal visit.

The King said he was shocked by the amount removed.

The local group Adopt a Coastline leads clean-ups, plants indigenous trees and offers environmental education.

Camilla received a bracelet made from discarded kite-surf materials and said it matched her dress.

The visit highlighted local efforts to care for the coast during the royal couple’s Caribbean tour.

The King is also in Antigua and Barbuda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, where he addressed the legacy of the transatlantic slave trade.
