Power outage hits Nijmegen area, disrupting traffic lights and hotel

A major power outage hit the Nijmegen region in the Netherlands on Thursday evening, affecting areas including Lent and Nijmegen-Noord.

It left thousands of homes without electricity for more than an hour, according to one headline.

Several traffic lights stopped working, so drivers were urged to take extra care at affected junctions.

Van der Valk Hotel Nijmegen-Lent also lost power, and overnight guests gathered in the restaurant, lit by battery-powered candles.

An emergency generator kept the hotel’s automatic doors working.

The outage was later reported as resolved, though the cause was not given.
