Andhra Pradesh factory produces 3 million tea bags a day for export

A tea factory in Sri City, in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati district, makes three million tea bags each day for export.

The factory is run by Everton Tea India, which sells products under supermarket brands including Walmart in Mexico and Aldi and Carrefour in Europe.

It blends tea from Indian plantations with smaller amounts from Kenya and China, then offers herbal, green and black teas in up to 40 flavours.

About 30% of its tea bags are herbal, and the company says demand for health-focused drinks and flavoured teas has grown.

The factory started operating in 2012 with two packaging machines and 20 workers; it now has 24 machines and about 300 shop-floor employees.

Its daily output rose from 2.5 million tea bags to three million over the past three years.

The company is also making gift-packaged tea bags and says it sees room to grow in European and US markets through new products and packaging.
