Modi launches Ladakh development projects worth Rs 3,350 crore

Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated five projects worth about Rs 3,350 crore in Ladakh on Thursday.

The projects include a new passenger terminal at Leh airport, the 298-km Nimmu-Padum-Darcha road, a small hydroelectric project and a power transmission line.

The projects aim to improve travel, electricity and water access in parts of the Union Territory, while a new park in Leh is intended to preserve ancient petroglyphs.

Modi said the government wants young people to access higher education and new skills in Ladakh rather than move to other cities.

A centre of excellence is being built in Leh, and proposals are advancing for satellite campuses of IIT Jammu and IIM Jammu.

The airport terminal uses geothermal energy to improve energy efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint in the ecologically sensitive region.

The government said it aims to develop modern infrastructure while protecting Ladakh’s local environment.
