South Korea urges dialogue with North Korea after DMZ mine blast

At a G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in Atlanta, South Korea’s foreign minister discussed a landmine explosion in the DMZ.

Cho Hyun explained the South Korean government’s position on the incident and called for dialogue and communication between the two Koreas.

He said dialogue is important to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

Cho also warned that growing military cooperation between North Korea and Russia is affecting security in the region.

He asked G20 members to support South Korea’s efforts to promote peaceful coexistence and reduce tensions.

South Korea also pledged practical support for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, and said it could help connect oil-producing and consuming countries amid energy pressures.

The government plans to work with G20 members toward practical results, including at the leaders’ summit in Miami in December and through South Korea’s G20 chairmanship in 2028.
