Carney to attend two Alberta rallies supporting Canadian unity before referendum

Prime Minister Mark Carney will attend two unity rallies in Alberta this week, visiting Calgary on Thursday and Edmonton on Friday.

The Forever Canadian campaign supports Alberta staying in Canada and was founded by former deputy premier Thomas Lukaszuk.

On Oct.

19, Albertans will vote on 10 questions, including whether the province should stay in Canada or hold a future binding vote on separation.

The referendum also includes questions about immigration and constitutional issues.

Carney is urging Albertans to remain part of Canada, saying the country is stronger when it works together.

The decision matters because a vote for a future separation referendum could begin a long process toward a possible break from Canada.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is also expected to speak about Canadian unity in Calgary on Friday.
