Sparkasse replaces S-ID-Check for online card payments

Sparkasse is replacing the S-ID-Check app used to confirm many online card purchases with its S-pushTAN app.

The change affects Sparkassen-Card holders and customers with Sparkasse credit cards in Germany.

The confirmation is part of 3-D-Secure, a security check intended to help ensure the person paying is the cardholder.

Customers must register their cards in S-pushTAN; simply installing the app is not enough.

Shutdown dates differ by Sparkasse: some say the old app will stop working at the end of 2026, while another gives 31 January 2027.

Without completing the switch, customers may find that online purchases requiring confirmation are declined, but their cards will still work in shops and at cash machines.

Customers who use chipTAN or do not use online banking can also register, with some receiving activation details by post.

Sparkasse warns customers to watch for fake messages that exploit the change.
