Vietnamese Film ‘Karaoke Murder’ Sets Same-Weekend Release Across Four Continents

Vietnamese film Karaoke Murder is set to open across four continents on the same weekend, a first for a film from Vietnam, according to its backers.

It will open nationwide in Vietnam on Oct.

30, with 3388 Films releasing it that weekend in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Norway, Australia and New Zealand.

The mystery follows a former journalist investigating a tycoon’s killing during a mountain pilgrimage where a group of neighbors is cut off from the outside world.

Karaoke is a familiar part of Vietnamese celebrations and everyday life, but loud singing can also lead to disputes between neighbors.

The film’s release links its home launch with overseas audiences, a strategy its distributor says can build momentum for international films.

The producers say they made the film first for Vietnamese audiences and hope it will also interest viewers abroad in Vietnamese cinema.

Its first cinemas release is scheduled for Oct.

30 in Vietnam and the listed overseas markets.
