PT pauses talks with Morena over state governor candidates

Mexico’s Labor Party has paused talks with Morena on candidates for state governor races in several states.

PT leader Alberto Anaya said the discussions are moving slowly because Morena has unresolved disputes among its factions and dissatisfied contenders.

The PT says it still wants an electoral alliance with Morena, but is waiting for those disputes to be addressed.

In Michoacán, the PT backs senator Raúl Morón and says he won Morena’s internal poll.

Anaya said the PT could nominate Morón itself if he agrees, but no independent candidacy has been confirmed.

The pause also delays talks on sharing candidates for Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies, which are due to follow the state-level negotiations.

The coalition talks remain open, and the parties have not formally broken with each other.
