Iberdrola raises $1.6 billion in US green bond sale
Iberdrola raised $1.6 billion in green bonds from investors in the United States and elsewhere.
The Spanish energy company said this was its first direct bond sale in the US since 2009, though its American subsidiaries have been active there.
Demand topped $5 billion from 116 investors, more than three times the final amount raised.
The bonds are split into two $800 million parts, due in 2029 and 2033, with fixed annual interest rates of 5.4% and 5.85%.
The proceeds will fund or refinance eligible green projects under Iberdrola's green financing rules.
The sale supports the company's push to keep investing in the US despite political uncertainty and opposition from President Donald Trump to offshore wind projects.
Iberdrola says the sale diversifies its funding and that its cost was comparable to borrowing in the euro market.
