Lee to hear farmers’ views on land survey and Pacific trade pact

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung is due to meet farmers and fishers at the Blue House on Oct.

26.

About 110 people are expected to attend, in the first such meeting between a sitting president and a large group of farmers and fishers since 2018.

They will discuss a nationwide farmland survey and the CPTPP, a trade pact spanning countries around the Pacific.

Farmers have raised concerns about these policies, and Lee says he wants to hear their views rather than push ahead without consultation.

Lee says the farmland survey aims to identify clear cases of property speculation, not to target farmers generally.

He has told officials not to apply to join the CPTPP this year and to keep listening to farmers and fishers; the meeting is intended to help find solutions and rebuild trust.
