Crystal Palace appeal Jean-Philippe Mateta's red card
Crystal Palace have appealed Jean-Philippe Mateta's red card from their Premier League match against Tottenham on Saturday.
Mateta was sent off in the 13th minute for a challenge on Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven, during a match Palace lost 2-0.
Referee Michael Oliver first showed a yellow card, but changed it to red after a video assistant referee review.
Palace say the contact was accidental, and Mateta is understood to believe he was watching the ball and did not see Van de Ven.
Mateta faces a three-match suspension if the appeal does not change the decision.
The appeal could overturn the red card or reduce the ban.
Palace host Liverpool on Sunday, with Mateta's availability important as the club seeks to improve its form and manager Pierre Sage faces questions about his future.
