Morena aspirant Arturo Marín killed in Guerrero municipality

Arturo Marín was shot dead in Cuajinicuilapa, a municipality in Mexico’s Guerrero state, on Saturday, October 17.

He was travelling in a vehicle with his wife, who was seriously injured in the attack.

Marín had registered on October 9 to seek a Morena party coordination role in the municipality, linked to the party’s committees on defence and sovereignty.

The reports differ on his full name, so he is referred to here as Arturo Marín.

His killing is the first reported homicide of an election hopeful since the electoral process began in September, according to one account.

Cuajinicuilapa has experienced violence in recent years, and two local mayors previously sought leave after threats from organized crime, one account says.

State investigators carried out initial inquiries, but the sources give no further update on the investigation or Marín’s wife’s condition.
