Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi set for December 4 theatrical release

Salman Khan announced Maatrubhumi will open in Indian theatres on December 4.

The war drama, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, is inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops.

Khan plays Bikkumalla Santosh Babu, an Indian Army officer who died in the clash alongside 19 other soldiers of the 16 Bihar Regiment.

The film's release was delayed several times, and Khan said the team wanted to improve the visual effects and that an actor's injury affected production.

It was first titled Battle of Galwan before being renamed Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace.

The film depicts a clash that strained India-China relations, and its teaser drew criticism from China's Global Times, which accused it of exaggerating and distorting facts.

The film is now scheduled to reach cinemas on December 4.

Today, there are a lot of VFX experts out there who examine each and every shot of a film. So, with this film, we don’t want to give anyone an opportunity to zoom in on a scene and criticise its VFX. We want this film to visually blow everyone’s mind. It is a beautifully shot film.

We thought we would be able to complete the film in 45-50 days, but madam got injured, and it took her time to recover. We were earlier supposed to release the film in either January or June, but it was then pushed to August. Now, we will release it on December 4.
