James Gunn Plans to Use Harley Quinn in the DCU, but Robbie’s Return Is Uncertain

James Gunn says Harley Quinn is almost certain to appear in the DCU, the rebooted universe of DC films and shows he is leading.

Gunn discussed whether his 2021 film The Suicide Squad counts as part of the new universe, and said most of it does.

Harley Quinn’s place is the main exception because the character’s future in the DCU is not settled.

Margot Robbie played Harley in three films, beginning with Suicide Squad in 2016.

Gunn does not know if Robbie wants to return, though he says he would work to include her if she does.

If she declines, Gunn may cast someone else to play Harley.

The DCU has begun with the animated series Creature Commandos and the film Superman, while some DC projects sit outside its connected story.

Harley is a character I’m almost certainly going to use in the DCU, and if Margot wants to play her, then I’ll bend over backwards to explain that in the world.
