Mexico prosecutors reject inquiry into López Beltrán and Adán Augusto López
Mexico’s federal prosecutor’s office says it does not have enough evidence to investigate Andrés Manuel López Beltrán and Senator Adán Augusto López over alleged fuel smuggling.
The claims came from former vice-admiral Manuel Roberto Farías Laguna, who said two witnesses mentioned the men in the case.
Prosecutors called those statements secondhand testimony, saying they lack enough legal basis to start an investigation.
The office asked Farías Laguna to present evidence to the proper authorities rather than make claims through the media.
The case concerns a network that allegedly brought the ship Challenge Procyon, carrying undeclared fuel, into the port of Altamira in Tamaulipas.
Seventeen people have been detained and prosecuted in connection with the case, while prosecutors continue investigating two other people named in the inquiry.
Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office said it lacks sufficient grounds to open an investigation into Andrés Manuel López Beltrán and Senator Adán Augusto López Hernández over alleged fuel smuggling.
The statement followed claims by jailed former vice admiral Manuel Roberto Farías Laguna that witnesses in the case mentioned the two men.
The office described such statements as hearsay and asked Farías Laguna to provide evidence.
It said its investigation into the case continues, including possible involvement by Rubén Alfonso Vargas Juárez and Luis Jorge “N”.

What people are saying
does not have sufficient elements
lack sufficient solidity or legal foundation to carry out an investigation
There is sufficient evidence and mentions of the real people involved. (Andy, Adán Augusto, etc.) Be careful about blaming someone without arguments. It is only what is in the investigation file; it says nothing.
