Pocheon memorial hall wins Gyeonggi architecture award

Gwangneung The Crest, a memorial hall in Pocheon, South Korea, won a Gyeonggi Architecture Award.

The award was given at the 31st annual competition, which recognizes buildings in the province for quality, fit with their surroundings and cultural value.

The hall combines memorial facilities with gardens, places to rest and spaces displaying artworks.

Its operators said this mix of remembrance and cultural activity was recognized by the judges.

The four-storey building opened in January last year and was designed by architectural firm Dareun and built by Arisu Engineering.

It also won an interior design award at Germany’s iF Design Awards earlier this year.

The award adds to recognition for the hall’s design, which brings together a place of remembrance and public cultural spaces.
