Australian actor Gary Waddell dies aged 74

Australian actor Gary Waddell has died aged 74.

He was known for roles in Australian films and television dramas.

Waddell won the 1975 AFI Best Actor award for playing a drug addict in the film Pure Shit, later released as Pure S!.

His film work included Ozploitation and new wave movies such as The FJ Holden, Monkey Grip and Chopper.

He also appeared in television dramas including A Country Practice, Blue Heelers and Rake.

His career spanned decades of Australian screen work, making him a familiar character actor to audiences.

His final screen performance was in The Survival of Kindness, released in 2022.
