Quebec premier names 22 ministers and sets out major mandates

Quebec Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon appointed 22 ministers to his new cabinet, one of the province’s smallest in decades.

He gave each minister detailed responsibilities, making the swearing-in ceremony unusually long despite the cabinet’s small size.

Education Minister Joël Arseneau must launch province-wide consultations in early 2027 and involve young people and parents.

The consultations are expected to last 18 months to two years and are meant to help restore confidence in public schools.

Health Minister Marie-Karlynn Laflamme has been tasked with dismantling Santé Québec, though the government has not explained how it will do so.

St-Pierre Plamondon has said he wants to decentralize health care, while Camille Pellerin-Forget will handle mental health and social services.

The government’s plans will now depend on how ministers carry out their mandates, including the education consultations and changes to health services.
