Germany’s economic recovery is expected to remain slow

Germany’s economy may be improving, but the recovery is moving slowly and uncertainty remains high.

The Commerzbank Earlybird indicator rose by one point to 28 in September.

It is designed to give a signal about economic activity six to nine months ahead.

A stronger global outlook and a weaker euro helped lift the measure, while the European Central Bank’s recent rate increase reduced support from monetary policy.

German industrial orders fell by 10.6% in August from the previous month, partly because there were fewer large orders than in July.

Businesses remain cautious because of geopolitical tensions, and some customers are placing orders at shorter notice.

A German glue maker still aims to increase revenue by 5% in its current financial year, while the indicator points to continued economic improvement.
