Polish man arrested after crossing from Lithuania into Russia

A Polish citizen crossed from Lithuania into Russia along the Baltic Sea coast on the Curonian Spit.

Lithuanian border guards spotted him on the dunes using surveillance equipment, but he had crossed into Russia’s Kaliningrad region before a patrol arrived.

The man had ignored warning signs marking the restricted border area.

Russian border guards later detained him on Russian territory.

Similar crossings along this coast are rare; the previous recorded case in the same direction was in 2018.

The reports give no further information about what will happen to the man.
