Turkey expects wind energy investment to accelerate in 2027

Turkey’s wind energy association expects investment to pick up in 2027 as many projects move from development toward construction.

The association’s chair, İbrahim Erden, said Turkey added more than 2,000 megawatts of wind capacity last year, placing it second in Europe, and now has more than 16,000 megawatts installed.

Turkey aims for 120,000 megawatts of wind and solar capacity by 2035, making new investment important to its energy plans.

Erden said the country has about 25,000 megawatts of onshore wind projects in its pipeline, but grid access, permits and financing will shape how quickly they proceed.

A first 1,000-megawatt offshore wind auction is expected next year, possibly near the end of the first quarter or start of the second, after the government publishes its tender rules.

The association expects COP31, which Turkey will host in Antalya from November 9 to 20, and improved tender rules to help attract international investors.
