France recalls about seven million condoms over manufacturing defects

French authorities have ordered a Europe-wide recall of about seven million condoms after finding manufacturing defects in products made by a Malaysian company.

The action covers 15 types of ultrathin condoms sold under several brands, including My Lubie, Einhorn, Amor and Primeros.

The defects can cause the condoms' latex layer to vary in thickness and quality, making them more likely to tear or develop holes.

That could increase the risk of sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancy for people who use them.

Eight users have reported tears in condoms linked to batches that authorities found unsafe.

Authorities recommend testing for sexually transmitted infections for anyone who recently used affected products, and a pregnancy test if a period is late.

France has ordered sales and imports of the affected types to stop for one year, with the measure open to extension; the exact products are listed by French authorities.
