Kashima beat Nagasaki 2-0 after scoring twice in the opening five minutes

Kashima Antlers beat V-Varen Nagasaki 2-0 in a J1 League match at Kashima's home ground on October 17.

Kashima scored from a penalty after 18 seconds, then added a second goal in the fifth minute.

Nagasaki had chosen to switch ends before kickoff in an attempt to unsettle the home side, but the plan did not prevent the early goals.

Kashima's win made it three straight victories in official competitions since play resumed.

Nagasaki have gone three league matches without a win and dropped to 15th place.

Coach Takuya Takagi said his side needed to be more aggressive against an experienced team and improve its ideas when trying to finish attacks.

The result leaves Kashima pursuing the league leaders, while Nagasaki will need to address its finishing and opening play.
