British woman dies trying to rescue sons in Bahamas waters

A 36-year-old British woman died after being swept away while snorkeling with her family near Bimini in the Bahamas on October 20.

Police said strong currents first swept her two sons away, and she entered the water to try to rescue them.

A water taxi crew pulled the family from the water, despite strong currents and large waves making the rescue difficult.

The woman was taken to a local clinic, where a doctor pronounced her dead after attempts to revive her.

The captain said both boys were rescued safely, though authorities have not publicly confirmed their condition.

Police said they do not suspect foul play, and an autopsy is being arranged to determine the exact cause of death.

British officials are supporting the family and are in contact with local authorities.
