Teenager seriously injured in chainsaw attack at Andhra Pradesh school

A 21-year-old man attacked a 15-year-old girl with a chainsaw in her classroom at a government school in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday morning.

Police identified the accused as Hemanth and said he is the girl’s maternal uncle.

Her family alleged that he had harassed her for some time in the name of love.

Another student was injured while trying to stop the attack, and the main victim suffered serious injuries to her face, neck and back.

She had surgery at a government hospital in Anantapur before being transferred to a specialist hospital in Bengaluru as her condition became critical.

Teachers’ and student groups condemned the attack and demanded stronger security in government schools, including better monitoring and watchmen.

The state government has said it will take stern action against the accused, while the girl’s condition is being monitored.
