Indonesia reports about 25 million tons of rice available

Indonesia's Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman says the country's rice supply is secure despite global tensions that could disrupt food trade.

As of October 26, government reserves managed by Bulog stood at about 4.5 million tons, alongside an estimated 10 million tons in crops ready for harvest and 10 million tons held by hotels, restaurants and caterers.

Together, these sources amount to about 25 million tons of rice, while national demand is about 2.5 million tons a month.

Amran says domestic production and reserves reduce reliance on imports if conflict or supply disruptions affect trade.

He links the country's rice self-sufficiency to its ability to protect people from shortages and price shocks.

The agriculture ministry is working to maintain production through irrigation repairs, pumps, improved seeds and measures to address drought and climate risks.

The government says it will keep strengthening production and reserves and protect farmers.
