Developer Removes San Francisco Zombie Game After Officials Condemn It

A developer removed a zombie shooter set in San Francisco’s Tenderloin after city officials condemned it.

Pierre-Louis Biojout made Tenderloin Night Shift over a weekend using OpenAI’s Codex, an AI coding tool.

In the game, players shoot zombies portrayed with details associated with people in the neighborhood, including people who are unhoused or struggling with addiction.

San Francisco officials called the game dehumanizing and unacceptable, saying it turned violence against real people into entertainment.

Biojout apologized, saying he had not intended to target a group, and said the game’s setting and promotion showed poor judgment.

He refunded advertisers and donated the game’s revenue to the Delancey Street Foundation, which provides rehabilitation services and vocational training.
