Matías Prats invested in a solar company with friends before its sale

Matías Prats invested in a solar-energy company with friends, joining Spain’s renewable-energy business years ago.

The company, Fotovoltaica Tarazona Trece, was founded in 2008 to produce electricity from renewable sources.

It was later sold to Q-Energy, and Prats stopped being its administrator and sole shareholder; he has not publicly explained why he left.

In 2018, he said the investment generated electricity but was not yet bringing much return, although the company recorded a positive result of just over €8,000 in 2020.

Prats said he and his father viewed work differently: his father lived to work, while he said he worked to live.

His father, veteran broadcaster Matías Prats Cañete, had initially advised against hiring him at TVE, but later became his close supporter and teacher.

Prats has worked in television for decades, joining TVE as a trainee in 1975 before moving to Antena 3 in 1998, where he became a familiar news presenter.

It generates electricity, but it does not generate much more. We made an investment many years ago with some friends, who invited me to participate. I liked it because I like everything that is renewable. I decided to invest, but it still does not yield a return.

He lived more to work, and I live to live. I have a responsibility to fulfil my role, but it is something else.
