Garbage truck falls into road crater in Osasco after asphalt gives way

A garbage truck fell into a crater on Saturday after the road surface gave way in Novo Osasco, in the city of Osasco near São Paulo.

The opening was large enough for Sabesp, the water company, to interrupt water distribution in the area.

Sabesp and the city government sent technical teams to investigate, but the cause of the crater is not yet known.

The company has not established whether its pipes are connected to the collapse.

The truck will be removed so inspections can continue and teams can decide what measures are needed.

Water service will resume when checks are complete and it is safe to restart operations; the city’s Civil Defense and government had not yet responded about possible damage to nearby buildings.
