Turkish writer and publisher Cem Akaş dies

Cem Akaş, a writer and publishing executive, has died, Can Yayınları announced on Wednesday.

He was the publishing house’s editor-in-chief and also worked as an editor and translator.

His death came a week after his 19-year-old son, Can, died; the articles do not state the cause of the son’s death.

After his son died, Akaş warned families about the possible harms of electronic cigarettes.

Akaş had been dealing with cancer, according to the reports.

His death has brought grief to his family and people in Turkey’s literary and publishing communities.

His funeral is scheduled for Thursday at Marmara University’s Faculty of Theology Mosque, followed by burial at Ümraniye Hekimbaşı Cemetery.
